We have determined that most of the prepacked first aid and trauma kits out on the market are highly over packed. Yes there is a time and a place for a large amount of first aid supplies, but it’s not in your pocket, purse or backpack. The kits you would buy at Walmart or Target are ok but they are overpacked and highly lacking. They are ok if all you are doing is putting one in your linen closet for piece of mind. But if you want to be properly stocked with appropriate supplies you will need something better. None of those kits come with tourniquets, chest seals, or many of the other things that make our kits great to perfectly protect you.
We believe that to be perfectly protected you need the perfect complement of items to make the first aid kit functional. The essential items that should be in your first aid kit vary based on the intended use. If you are leaving one in the car, we recommend our I.F.A.K, all the time it will differ from one that you keep in your range bag. Likewise one that you keep in your camping stash will differ from one that gets carried in the diaper bag. That is why we have designed several different bags to fit whatever need you have.
The other day on the ambulance we were dispatched to an elderly female who had fallen and was bleeding from the head. We run these calls almost daily, they are usually routine and not much to them. This day though when we arrived on scene and there was much more blood than I had anticipated. We assessed the patient and determined the would to be superficial. What did we use to cover the wound? 1 sterile 4×4 and a 2″ stretch conforming gauze. That is all it took to properly control the bleeding. You do not need an obscene amount of Band-Aids in your first aid kit. You need the right Band-Aids and bandages in your first aid and trauma kit, and that is where we come in!
